Milan's popular Museo di Storia Naturale (Natural History Museum) was founded in 1838, following the generous donations by keen Italian collectors, Giuseppe de Cristoforis and Giorgio Jan. The Natural History Museum is a large and important building, dating back to 1893, and now holds many of Milan's most interesting exhibits and collections.
Attractions at the Natural History Museum include reconstructions of dinosaurs, skeletons, insects, mammals, reptiles, scientific instruments and a specialist library with over 30,000 books. Other attractions at Milan's Museo di Storia Naturale include a large fossil collection of the Besano Glacier dating back 200,000,000 years and also a number of highly detailed recreations of animal habitats.
